KEEP IT COMPOSTABLE

So...this plastic-y looking cup is actually compostable?

Compostable packaging is still pretty new, and in New Zealand we don't have standard

compostable labeling yet.

So, we did some research to create catalogue of certified (commercially) compostable take-away food packaging, with a guide for you to safely navigate the options out there.

We tested the certified ranges we found, in Xtreme Zero Waste's Hot Compost Unit,

so we know we can close the loop on these once we're all ready.

WHY CHOOSE COMPOSTABLE OVER

RECYCLABLE FOOD PACKAGING?

Recyclable material needs to be clean to avoid becoming landfill. Genuine compostable material with food, collected into a

commercial facility (or if it can be home composted),

becomes soil with no toxic residues.

BEFORE DIVING IN...

Product terms like 'Bio', 'Sustainable', 'Eco' etc. do not mean they are

genuinely compostable.

Certification to Standards is the only way to be sure, as outlined in

our simple guide.

In this resource ' compostable' refers to commercially compostable (will break down in Xtreme Zero Waste's Hot Compost Unit),

often not in home compost.
